September Roundup

This has been one of those months where I think “can I still call myself an artist if I’m not making art?” Of course the answer is yes, it’s always yes, it’s just harder to believe and give myself some grace while I go through a busy period.

September is a transitional month. We go zoom zoom through the Equinox, changing not just from longer days to longer nights but also changing at the fastest rate, gaining several extra minutes of night every day. Schools are back, freshers week happened, stationery and Christmas and Halloween stuff arrived in the shops, and everything feels hectic AF. I’ve tried to let the current carry me along, though there have been all sorts of things at work and at home that I’ve had to attend to. I am pooped. I’ve switched from regular oat lattes to pumpkin spice lattes and it’s just about keeping the mental lights on.

Just when I thought I was on top of everything, the oven broke.

I’ve been avoiding my more stimulating hobbies during this time — I do not have the brain power for them — and enjoying the Charmed boxset (the 90s version) and remembering all the silly details of my youth, like cardigans with furry collars. I wasn’t quite old enough to enjoy all the 90s fashions when I first saw them, but now I’ve got my eye on eBay…
